 ckney’s EartH theatre on 1st May – as part of their now annual Mayday 
 celebrations – trad folk quartet Goblin Band return with new single ‘C
 lyde Water’ – out today (7th April) via Broadside Hacks Recordings (Sa
 m Grassie\, Milkweed\, Spitzer Space Telescope).\nA studio recording with 
 producer Rory Salter\, yet capturing the fizzing urgency of their live per
 formances\, Goblin Band bring out the exuberance and joy in the traditiona
 l ballad\, drawing from Nic Jones’ versions of tune\, and his ‘The Dro
 wned Lovers’.Issued digitally and on 7” vinyl along with B-side ‘Go 
 From My Window’\, it’s marks the band’s first release since November
  2025 live album ‘A Loaf of Wax’\, which increased the band’s growin
 g list of press/radio backers to include The Quietus\, MOJO\, The Guardian
 \, CRACK\, BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show\, KLOF\, Tradfolk\, Shindig!\, Far Ou
 t\, and more.\nSpeaking more about ‘Clyde Water’ Sonny Brazil (they/th
 em) from the band says: “Clyde Water was one of the first traditional fo
 lk ballads I listened to on repeat. Nic Jones’ two distinctive versions 
 of the song are both two of my favourite recordings of all time. It’s no
 t a particularly relatable story (apart from the part where willie dies tr
 ying to save his hat I would’ve done the same) but it’s a pure example
  of how a ballad with no chorus can be incredibly fun and in no way boring
 ”\nGrowing cult favourites on the thriving UK folk circuit who set their
  stall on re-energising timeless\, much-journeyed songs for an ever-growin
 g new community of enthusiasts\, the band are fresh from a nationwide Broa
 dside Hacks label tour last autumn\, a trip to New Orleans for Folk Allian
 ce festival in January. Brought together by a shared desire to recover the
  radical and progressive energy at the core of traditional music\, the ban
 d are heavily inspired by the folk pastimes of Britain and abroad. Their s
