ing more about ‘Clyde Water’ Sonny Brazil (they/them) from the band sa
ys: “Clyde Water was one of the first traditional folk ballads I listene
d to on repeat. Nic Jones’ two distinctive versions of the song are both
two of my favourite recordings of all time. It’s not a particularly rel
atable story (apart from the part where willie dies trying to save his hat
I would’ve done the same) but it’s a pure example of how a ballad wit
h no chorus can be incredibly fun and in no way boring”\nGrowing cult fa
vourites on the thriving UK folk circuit who set their stall on re-energis
ing timeless\, much-journeyed songs for an ever-growing new community of e
nthusiasts\, the band are fresh from a nationwide Broadside Hacks label to
ur last autumn\, a trip to New Orleans for Folk Alliance festival in Janua
ry. Brought together by a shared desire to recover the radical and progres
sive energy at the core of traditional music\, the band are heavily inspir
ed by the folk pastimes of Britain and abroad. Their seasonal headlines fo
r winter solstice and May Day are now regular\, sold-out events. with thei
r performance at EartH next month their grandest occasion to date.\ngoblin
