ACTS: Andy Field, Yuriko Kotani; headlining Mike Wilmott, Mc: Dave Mounfield
For this month Comedy Night is one week later than normal on the second Thursday of the month - Remember, remember...to come to this amazing bonfire of comedic talent we've stacked up! Warm your laughter cockles after the big weekend in Lewes. Sure it reads like a wowcher voucher but I just don't care. Andy Field is on fire at the moment; winning awards and competitions as one of the most original and surreal new comedy voices in the UK. There's fireworks aplenty from exciting Japanese comedienne Yuriko Kotani, and all topped off with a very famous Guy of stage, TV and Screen, Canadian Mike WIlmott! Lighting the blue touchpaper and standing back will be our own dear disappointing Roman Candle, Dave Mounfield.
ANDY FIELD Winner of the Chortle Student Comedy Award 2015, as well as finalist in the 2014 Leicester Square New Act of the Year, Andy has made an impact on the comedy scene with his unique style and fresh approach to traditional stand up.
A regular at festivals such as Latitude, Bestival, Leefest and Secret Garden Party, Andy is fast becoming a familiar face at top comedy clubs around the country. He has hosted his own webseries in the Tub, in which he interviewed up-and-coming bands in the bath (of course). He has a Masters in Creative Writing from Brunel. Andy returned to Edinburgh in 2017 with a brand new hour of sketch meets stand up, The Andy Field Experience, which garnered numerous 4 and 5 star reviews.
YURIKO KOTANI Winner: Squawker Award 2015 Runner-up: So You Think You're Funny 2015 Time Out 'One to Watch'. Yuriko Kotani is the Japanese comedian who was named as "One To Watch" by Time Out in 2015. She went on to become first runner up in So You Think You're Funny? and won BBC Radio New Comedy Award 2015. Yuriko's blend of tightly scripted off-beat punchlines and disarming persona has been delighting audiences in comedy clubs across the UK. "leftfield rising star" - Time Out (February 2015).
MIKE WILMOTT Already an established comedian in his home country Canada, Mike Wilmot started working in the UK as a stand-up comedian in 1995. For over a decade Mike has built up a reputation as one of the unsung heroes of the UK comedy scene achieving rave reviews throughout the country for his unique stand-up. In 2003 he won the coveted Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. ‘The highlight was Mike Wilmot, a fast talking stand-up whose close-to-the-bone repertoire leaves the audience in a state of hilarity that most comedians can only dream of’ – The Sunday Times.
